2599 Have Mercy on Me

Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in You I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. ~ Psalm 57:1

So I want to look at the Psalm 57:1-11.

Little do we read the full context of what's been written. We take what we need and move on. 

1 Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me,
    for in you I take refuge.
I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings
    until the disaster has passed.

2 I cry out to God Most High,
    to God, who vindicates me.
3 He sends from heaven and saves me,
    rebuking those who hotly pursue me—
    God sends forth his love and his faithfulness.

4 I am in the midst of lions;
    I am forced to dwell among ravenous beasts—
men whose teeth are spears and arrows,
    whose tongues are sharp swords.

5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
    let your glory be over all the earth.

6 They spread a net for my feet—
    I was bowed down in distress.
They dug a pit in my path—
    but they have fallen into it themselves.

7 My heart, O God, is steadfast,
    my heart is steadfast;
    I will sing and make music.
8 Awake, my soul!
    Awake, harp and lyre!
    I will awaken the dawn.

9 I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
    I will sing of you among the peoples.
10 For great is your love, reaching to the heavens;
    your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

11 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;
    let your glory be over all the earth.

However, as David writes there is so much more.

Let me give you the back story of this Psalm.

In the Psalm, David writes two sections. The first is him giving life to the anxiety that he felt, crying out to God for assistance against Saul and David's enemies. The Psalm concludes with David entering into the confident expectation of deliverance, stirring up his soul to praise God.

The K.I.S.S. ~ Have mercy on me!

When life happens, we replay the bad over and over again, leaving only the leftovers of hurt to console us. 

But that's not living, nor how God desires us to live. 

Just as David faced his anxiety and enemies, he still praised God.

And little do we hear about the good and the bad going together. But that's what makes God so good. 

It's not because of our circumstances, but who God is. 

God is in control. And yes, you and I still have to do our parts. 

But you must understand that even in the direst of situations, there is still hope. And no, you may not get what you want from it, at least how you see the outcomes.

Yet that doesn't mean that God loves you any less.

Honestly, I think that's what we as humans struggle with. We can't see what God knows. 

And He knows best, even when we don't like the outcome of the situation.

CHALLENGE: Be more like David. Cry out to God with your struggles and troubles. Be honest with what you are feeling. And then, at the same time, celebrate God's goodness and be steadfast knowing that He's got you always!

"Be present. Be incredible. Be YOU!!!"
