Lost In The Bermuda Triangle

Since the discovery of the new world by Europeans in the 15th century, ships and eventually planes would begin to disappear in large numbers, covering an area from Florida to Puerto Rico to Bermuda. Labeled the Bermuda Triangle by some and the Devils Triangle by others, this area of the Atlantic Ocean would become the water grave for over 2000 ship and over 200 planes. What could possibly cause this level of destruction and loss?  Is it due to ancient sea monsters, lost Atlantean technology, or Aliens?  Then again, could the entirety of the mythos be an exaggeration based on stories told with a flashlight under the chin?
