The Group of Seven is a summit of the world’s wealthier democracies, it’s happening next week, and the UK will use that occasion to urge world leaders to commit to vaccinating the world by the end of 2022. Britain pledged in February to give most of its surplus supply to COVAX, the U.N.-backed program to vaccinate poorer countries.

There might be a new kind of COVID-19 vaccine as soon as this summer. It’s based on known technology and doesn't require special refrigeration. What makes it different is the current vaccines deliver genetic instructions for the spike protein, then our bodies’ cells have to make that protein. This vaccine contains the spike protein itself — so it's already made — plus something that enhances the immune system's response.

We finally bring you good news out of India. Daily cases yesterday dropped to the lowest level seen in over two months. It’s a welcome turnaround after a brutal second wave. Royal Caribbean says it won’t require US passengers to get vaccinated to go on several ships set to sail this summer out of Florida, they’ll just strongly encourage it. And the unvaccinated may have to undergo testing and follow some restrictions. Florida’s governor threatened to fine cruise lines $5,000 each time they required a guest to show proof of vaccination.

Pro golfer Jon Rahm was on the golf course, leading by six shots at the Memorial Tournament when he was told he’d tested positive for COVID-19. He had to withdraw, likely costing him the trophy and oh yeah, $1.6 million. It led to much debate on Twitter; some said if he’d been vaccinated in his home state of Arizona March 24 this wouldn’t have happened. Others said what a tragedy this would be if the test was a false positive.
