Season 5 EP 10 – The State of Iconic Architecture in Los Angeles

We have been spending a bit more time lately on showcasing the classics in architecture and design. That’s why it is only fitting for the annual ‘State of Iconic LA Architecture’, our annual visit to city hall for a conversation with Ken Bernstein, Manager and Principal City Planner in the Office of Historic Resources. I met Ken for the first time in 2016 and we first spoke on the podcast in 2017. I went back for an update and there is so much happening with regard to Los Angeles architecture and design, I realized that we might need to visit more often. If you are interested in LA’s hidden gems, artisan housing stock and how to find amazing homes, walking tours and more… Ken is going to share everything you need to know. Part of the joy for me in this episode is the constant activity and buzz that surrounds LA’s beautiful City Hall (and you will hear it all). For those who are curious, the building was completed in 1928 with three lead architects on the project; Albert C. Martin, John C. Austin and John Parkinson. The building was described by Austin in 1928 as “Modern America”. The art deco structure is easily one of the most identifiable buildings in Los Angeles and you probably remember some of the film exteriors in which it appears like Speed, Die Hard 2 or the original Dragnet.
