Kari Berit is the author of “The Unexpected Caregiver” and has over 30 years of experience in helping families and communities in caregiving. She focuses on creating resources and raising awareness around the difficulties that can accompany caring for a loved one in need. Kari is the author of the Mental Fitness Guide, and created the S.A.N.E. method to ensure people feel Supported, Appreciated, Not Guilty, and Energized as a caregiver. She has served as a director for the Good Samaritan Society National Board, as well as a director for senior housing and dementia care specialists across multiple different states.

In this episode of the Conversations on Healing Podcast, Shay Beider and Kari discuss how to apply her S.A.N.E. method to ensure caregivers are remaining grounded. They also discuss the importance of being kind to yourself when caring for a loved one, as it is not something people are naturally trained to do. Kari shares resources available to those who have unexpectedly assumed a caregiving role and describes how to navigate difficult family dynamics. Finally, she offers what she sees as the benefits of caring for a loved one and her own personal shift in perspective after becoming a caregiver.
