The Esau family moved to Alberta, Canada in the fall of 2007. Little did they know how long Canadian winters are. By March, they were sure that green grass was just around the corner. We all know, it was not. Instead it snowed some more. In late May spring finally arrived followed by a short, cool summer. Nevertheless, Anna decided to take the plunge into gardening in cold climate, and did not stop when snow and ice covered the ground in any of the summer months. Her husband Jakob played a significant role in growing food, from preparing their first raised bed at a rented house to building a Geodesic Dome greenhouse and installing south-facing windows for a winter garden.
