So you hear everyone and their mom talk about journaling but you have no idea where to start. Should you write everything or just highlight a few things? Write for 5 minutes or for 1 hour?

I want to break down a few things for you so you can better understand what I do for journaling and hopefully you can take away a few tips from this.

1. Set a timer- Most days I set a timer for how long to journal because I love it so much, I could do it for hours! I suggest starting a time and writing as much as you can in that time. You can call this a brain dump, or a personal inventory. Either way, write down whatever is on your mind and get it onto the paper. Then you can begin to organize your thoughts and begin taking action on what needs to get done.

2. Journal Prompts - If I feel like I get stuck on journaling, I like to look up journal prompts on pinterest. I find questions that make me thing a little deeper about what I want in life and why I want it. I always set a timer when doing this too otherwise I can spiral into a rabbit hole and hours goes by. Ask yourself things like: What do I want? What do I want my day to look  like? What is my ideal job? How do I want to feel when I wake up? How do I want to feel when I go to bed? What is my favorite memory? Why is that my favorite? How can I have more joy in my life? When was the happiest moment of my life? What will my life look like 10 years from now? How can I make xxxx happen so I can fulfill my dreams?

3. Recap your day -  I usually spend 5-10 minutes each night recapping my day. I want to know how I spent my time and if I can make any improvements for the next day. I also like to spend this time to reflect on my day and pick the BEST thing that happened to me. I will go through the series of events that happened during that day and write them down. I will say why I am grateful for each moment in time and why it was the best time today. It helps me refrain my mind to look for the positive in every situation and to remind me all that I have to be grateful for!

Still stuck on journaling? Here are a few books I found on Amazon that could be helpful to get you started and think outside the box! Enjoy!
