Episode 059: Great Lakes Comic Con & MSU Comics Forum

The Comic Pros & Cons Podcast officially kicked off convention season this week with two cons in one day!

First up was Great Lakes Comic Con. GLCC is one of those perfect smaller scale shows that knows how to balance creators, vendors and media guests with a perfect floor plan.

Speaking of creators, con season never officially starts until we have talked to the man behind the hand, Dirk Manning. Derek and Dirk discuss cons in general and what makes GLCC special, as well as what is new in the world of Dirk. We also bring Stephen Sharar on the show for the first time to talk about his life in creating comics, running a comic book store, and being part of the Snake Oil Comics podcast.

Next, we hit up the MSU Comics Forum to talk to Promotions Coordinator, Jason Larsen. The Comics Forum was truly amazing as there really aren’t many other shows out there like this. Focusing on creators, networking and a true love of the art form and medium, this show is a breath of fresh air, and shows of all sizes could do themselves a favor and take a few pages from MSU’s book.

If these 2 shows are any hint of what is to come this year, then Comic Pros & Cons is off to one hell of a start.
