Previous Episode: S2E1: Justice 4 Trae

In this week's episode we speak with Casey Goodson Jr.'s mother, Ms. Tamala Payne, and the family's attorney, Sean Walton.

Casey Goodson, Jr. was murdered on December 4, 2020 by Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Meade. Casey Goodson Jr. was outside his grandmother’s home when he was shot and killed by Meade. The shooting has been ruled a homicide by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.

This is what we know so far:

A Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy was working with the U.S. Marshal’s Southern Ohio Fugitive Task Force to look for a fugitive.
Goodson was not the targeted fugitive and is not alleged to have committed any crimes and has no criminal background.
He was licensed to carry a concealed weapon and Ohio does not prohibit the open carrying of firearms.
Federal investigators, the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, the FBI in Cincinnati and the Columbus police are now investigating the case.
No one in the family saw Casey brandish a weapon. Casey believed in safe and legal gun ownership.
We know that nothing has been presented by any agency that would justify why Casey was shot. We have not been presented with any documentation that supports this was a justified shooting.
A witness from the family did see Meade point a gun at Casey’s uncle, who was holding his toddler child at the time.
The family was forced out of the house, held separately and treated as suspects instead of a scared and grieving family. Police attempted to keep Casey’s five year old brother from his mother.
Casey’s phone is in police custody so we have no information regarding anything that would be answered by having access to his phone.
There has not been any video camera or security camera footage of the shooting recovered at this time. According to media reports, there is no bodycam footage either.

The family’s request is that people across the country join the family of Casey Goodson in solidarity in celebrating Casey’s life and making demands for justice for his death and the deaths of countless Black people who have been unjustly killed by police officers.
