#75 - Li Lu’s Principles On Value Investing

In this episode, we will be going over concepts such as Margin of Safety, Mr. Market, and Compounding explained by Li Lu who is a manager at Himalaya Capital an $18.5B  fund out of which $2.1B is invested in the US markets. More importantly, he is a student of Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger and one of the value investors we follow closely (link to 13F episode).
He is hailed as the Chinese Warren Buffett. Here’s the kicker. If you had invested $1000 with Li Lu in 1997, the total return as of today would have been $321,000 compared to $6,600 in S&P.
So when he talks about value investing, we have to listen to him and today, we are going to do the same..
Who is Li Lu?
Li Lu was born in China but had to flee the country as he was one of the protestors in the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests. He fled to the US via France got a scholarship in Columbia. He got 3 degrees - economics, physics, and business. He didn’t speak English, so learned that too.
