Maya Bruney is a designer elite British athlete. She's currently preparing for the 2020 IAAF World Indoor Ahtletic Championship in China and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in her chosen disciplines of the 200m, 400m and 4x 400m. She's also a graphic design graduate from the BRIT School and the University of East London.

Maya grew up in Croydon and was introduced to athletics by her parents, David and Silvia, having shown early interest in "moving around quickly". Her parents remain deeply involved in her career, Silvia as her nutritionist, and David as her technical coach.

Maya became the only athlete to achieve a hat-trick of medals at the 2017 European Atheltics U20 Chanpionships. She became the 2017 European Junior 200m Champion, 4 x 100-metre relay bronze medalist and 4 x 400-metre relay bronze medalist, placing Britain top of the medal table at the Championships. She broke Chirley Thomas's 30-year-old Surrey record for the 200 metres, running 23.04 seconds and set the 2017 European Junior 200m Leading Time. In 2018 she won gold in the British Universities & Colleges Sports (BUCS) 400m and 4x100m gold medalist.

She's also a talented designer, with interests in jewerly design and sports technology design, and has played a central role in creative dimensions of her marketing work with her sponsor, Puma.

She follows her dual passions of design and athletics with equal determination and is motivated to inspire others to follow their dreams by doing what they love. I hope you find her story as inspirational as I do.
