It's hoped a state-of-the-art sports facility in a West Clare town will lift the area's younger population out of a cycle of anti-social behaviour. A grant application has been submitted for an indoor sports centre in Kilrush under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund. The €124 million Government initiative was launched in April of this year and allows local authorities and national governing bodies of sport to apply for between €600,000 and €30 million for infrastructural projects. Kilrush Independent Councillor Ian Lynch believes the facility is crucial as it would offer more opportunities to the youth of the town.
