Clare victims of domestic abuse are being reminded that protections are available if you decide to go to the Gardaí. It comes as new data has revealed that there's been an increase of 49% in incidents with a domestic abuse motive in Clare in the past five years. Already in 2024, 242 such incidents have been reported within this county and across last year, Clare Gardaí responded to approximately six call-outs each day. Domestic Abuse Liaison Inspector for the Clare-Tipperary Garda Division, David Finnerty, says even if the victim doesn't press charges, protection orders can be sought to "break the cycle of abuse".
