A Clare addiction treatment centre is encouraging people to engage in an open dialogue around alcohol use this week. With Alcohol Awareness Week now underway, Drinkaware has launched an awareness campaign called 'Know the Low' to highlight the importance of adhering to the HSE Low-Risk Weekly Guidelines. Research shows just 3% of adults are aware of these guidelines, which permit women less than 11 standards drinks and men less than 17 standard drinks spread out over the week, with at least two alcohol free-days. Deputy Manager at Bushypark Addiction Treatment Centre Meadhbh Firmino da Silva Santos insists it's important people know their limits and think critically about their reasons for drinking.
