Proverbs 29:18 is one of the most misinterpreted, misunderstood, and misapplied Scripture, even though many Christians know it by heart. They focus on "Without revelation, people run wild" but ignore the second half of the verse, "but one who follows divine instruction will be happy." This verse has been memorized by many as "Without a vision, the people perish" and they use it as a justification to spend a lot of time, energy, and talent wrestling with church "vision-casting" and mission statements. While these things are good things, they have a faint secondary application to this verse. The truth of the verse just might step on your toes. You are forewarned!
