Welcome to the City of Redding Podcast. Have you ever wondered how police dogs are trained? Why are K-9 units used in our community? We answer these questions and more in our conversation with Sgt. Jeff Schmidt from the Redding Police Department.
K-9 units are more valuable than you might think and many of these programs are funded through community support. A properly trained police dog saves 600 to 1000 man-hours every year. Sgt. Schmidt explains this in full detail as well as discusses how in many cases the use of Police K-9’s help to de-escalate situations.
