We live alongside people that historically we did not live alongside. To make space for our new found differences, faiths, beliefs, and our politics - without killing each other - means we need some form of guiding principle. Liberalism, in its capacity to create shared rights and the willingness to surrender other rights to live in without harm, offers us the road map to living peacefully.
