David Lean is one of Britain's most celebrated filmmakers, the master of the epic with such classics like The Bridge On The River Kwai, Lawrence of Arabia and Doctor Zhivago. But ever the contrarians, Cine-Lit heads back before Lean started to go epic with a pair of films based on the works of Charles Dickens that are among the best ever adapted for film.
