If there is a One True God, then there must be false gods. If there is One True Christ, then there must be false Christs. Everything cannot be true or nothing is true. Truth can make some people nervous. If truth exists, then it will always be possible to be on the side of falsehood. Truth naturally challenges falsehood.
The Apostle John watched as Jesus was crucified based on the lies of this world that were portrayed as truth. Little did this world know that God can squeeze HIS truth out of the midst of the lies of this world. The Apostle John, who has seen a thing or two, gave us our holy litmus test for truth: Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world (1 John 4:1).
