Homily given at the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, August 5, 2018, the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time, by Fr. Ed Fride, Pastor, Christ the King Catholic Church. This is the fifth and final homily in a series of homilies that began on July 8, 2018, on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Fr. Ed reviewed the amazing miracles of Exodus that preceded today's first reading, which the Israelites responded to with grumbling instead of gratitude. The provision of food for the Israelites in the desert and the multiplication of the loaves in the Gospel were meant to prepare our hearts for the greatest bread miracle of all, the Eucharist.

Fr. Ed reminds us that a Eucharistic spirituality is not just about what you do, but about your attitude of heart, which should be an attitude of gratitude. He calls us to respond to the works of the Lord with trust and gratitude, even in the midst of the challenges and scandals of the present day, and to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.
