Time of Reflection Quotations

“You can easily judge the character of a man by how he treats those who can do nothing for him.”

~ Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832), German writer, scientist, statesman, theater director, and critic

“There is one element that is worth its weight in gold and that is loyalty. It will cover a multitude of weaknesses.”

~ Philip Danforth Armour (1832-1901), American meatpacking industrialist

“To be convinced in our hearts that we have forgiveness of sins and peace with God by grace alone is the hardest thing.”

~ Martin Luther (1483-1546), German professor, theologian, composer, and author

“No dependence can be placed upon our natural qualities, or our spiritual attainments; but God abideth faithful. He is faithful in His love; He knows no variableness, neither shadow of turning. He is faithful to His purpose; He doth not begin a work and then leave it undone. He is faithful to His relationships; as a Father He will not renounce His children, as a friend He will not deny His people, as a Creator He will not forsake the work of His own hands.”

~ Charles Spurgeon (1834 – 1892), British author and minister

“My trust in God flows out of the experience of his loving me, day in and day out, whether the day is stormy or fair, whether I’m sick or in good health, whether I’m in a state of grace or disgrace. He comes to me where I live and loves me as I am.”

~ Brennan Manning (1934-2013), American author and former priest

Sermon Passage

John 13

36 Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answered him, “Where I am going you cannot follow me now, but you will follow afterward.” 37 Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” 38 Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, the rooster will not crow till you have denied me three times.

John 14

1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” v6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
