Genesis 37: 1 – 32. This is the second time Roydon has preached this sermon. The first version of it can be found here in video and audio format: http://www.christchurchmidrand.co.za/portfolio-items/1-providence-over-sin/

Looking at the world around can lead us to question if there is a ruling God or if we are all part of a random string of events. Wars, famine and economic turmoil echo throughout history and in our own lives. In this first part of our series on providence, we find God in control even when the evidence seems to the contrary. We find Joseph, heir to a great promise of leadership over his brothers, yet thrown into a well and placed into slavery. God’s promise appears threatened.

The story of Joseph and his family is one of bitterness, envy and strife. The family is broken. Yet, God shows he is in control and ends up uniting the family. God brings about the unity in the family and God does that for us through defeating our curse: Sin. This sermon helps us to take comfort in the midst of suffering and encourages us to be agents of his providence.
