5.3.2021 Motivational Monday

Motivation drives success! To be successful, one must find a reason to reach for the stars, so to say. Let’s look at it this way. Others will tell you to reach for the stars when you present with them your great goal. Such as, a high school sophomore saying they’ll be a famous trial lawyer in 20 years. Their parent’s or grandparents will often jump right in with, “You can do anything! Just reach for the stars.”

So, that’s your motivation. Being able to touch the stars, ie, become a famous trial lawyer.

A sophomore in high school really does need to start working their goals to reach that great, big dream. So, what can she do? First, she must create a list of all the things that must be achieved to reach that final goal. Such as, finish high school. Ok, that’s a “no-brainer” but it’s a step that will tank the entire dream if not achieved so it’s a very important step for that list. 

OK, so what else? Become familiar with the laws of your state. Be able to read and understand quickly. Be able to follow instructions to the T. Know when to keep your mouth shut. Learn to know the answers before they are asked. Learn effective and efficient study habits by practicing and perfecting the best study habits for him/her. And so much more!!!

Once the list is made, he/she needs to breathe because this is going to be an overwhelming list. Then, he/she needs to list those in order of 1. Needs to be done first and 2. Most important. This creates a list of the “little goals”.

See, it is so much more effective to set a timeline for each goal and word toward one or two small goals rather than all of them. Read law journals during the summer break, for instance, could be one of the great small goals that could be reached during the summer. Law school is all about reading law journals but starting the first day of law school already knowing how to understand how to read a law journal is a huge step ahead.
