#182 – Alien: Resurrection

April 08, 2024 14:11 - 1 hour - 120 MB

On this week's show, we watched 1997's Alien: Resurrection starring Sigourney Weaver, Winona Ryder, Ron Perlman, Brad Dourif, and Raymond Cruz.  From director Jean-Pierre Jeunet, this next installment to the Alien franchise features an entirely new version of Ripley, a lot of aliens, interstellar mercenaries, a bumbling military, and some mad scientists. Toss in a dash of pretty solid FX, plot inconstancies, a few chuckles, and cringey dialog, and you've got the makings of a big budget, c...

#181 – Alien 3

March 29, 2024 13:09 - 1 hour - 124 MB

On this week's show, we watched 1992's Alien 3 starring Sigourney Weaver, Charles Dance, Charles S. Dutton, Paul McGann, and Lance Henriksen.  From director David Fincher, this third installment of the Alien franchise starts immediately following the events of Aliens (1986), where the survivors of LV-426 were headed back to Earth via the Colonial Marine spaceship, The USS Sulaco. Somehow, the Xenomorph queen made it onboard and laid 3 eggs before meeting her doom at the end of the previous...

#180 – Aliens

March 14, 2024 14:34 - 1 hour - 143 MB

On this week's show, we watched 1986's Aliens starring Sigourney Weaver, Michael Biehn, Paul Reiser, Lance Henriksen, Carrie Henn, and Bill Paxton.  From director James Cameron, this next installment to the Alien franchise is quite a tonal shift from the first movie. While the first is a sci-fi horror classic, the second is arguably one of the greatest sci-fi action movies ever.  This movie sees the return of both the hero and monster(s) from the first, a group of intergalactic badass sol...

#179 – Alien

February 27, 2024 15:23 - 1 hour - 137 MB

On this week's show, we watched 1979's Alien starring Sigourney Weaver, Tom Skerritt, John Hurt, Veronica Cartwright, Harry Dean Stanton, Yaphet Kotto, and Ian Holm.  From director Ridley Scott, this blockbuster is arguably the greatest sci-fi horror movie of all-time. It features a fantastically talented cast, great cinematography, unforgettable scares, a couple of the most iconic movie monsters to date, and an unexpectedly badass hero.  Be sure to let us know what you think of the movie...

#178 – Predator

February 15, 2024 15:18 - 1 hour - 135 MB

On this week's show, we watched 1987's Predator starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Carl Weathers, Kevin Peter Hall, Elpidia Carrillo, and Jesse Ventura.  This blockbuster features a cast that's a veritable who's who of 80s action movie tough guys, big guns, bigger muscles, a giant alien capable of slaughtering everything it sees with its bare hands or super cool tech, practical FX from a true industry legend, great cinematography, amazing one-liners, and Arnold at the near pinnacle of his gam...

#177 – The Adventures of Hercules And Favorite Films of 2023

January 30, 2024 15:30 - 1 hour - 104 MB

On this week's show, an unplanned dive back into the films of The Canon Group with a look at 1985's The Adventures of Hercules starring Lou Ferrigno.  This cult classic is a confusing quagmire of oiled muscles, a muddled plot, bad dialogue, and adorably cheesy FX. To be fair, Lou Ferrigno is arguably the best live action version we've seen of the the god, and there are many things in the movie to enjoy. However the comparisons to the more beloved Clash of the Titans (1981) are inescapable....

#176 – Violent Night (2022)

January 03, 2024 15:57 - 1 hour - 88.1 MB

On this week's show, a review of the 2022's Violent Night starring David Harbour, John Leguizamo, Beverly D'Angelo, and Alex Hassell. This one is a blend of a few holiday movies including Die Hard, Home Alone, and Miracle on 34th Street. And with an added dash of John Wickian hyper-violence, this holiday action comedy was a very entertaining viewing experience.  How about you? Did you see it? What did you think? Be sure to let us know. And if you like what you hear, please subscribe, an...

#175 – Scrooged

December 12, 2023 15:39 - 1 hour - 145 MB

On this week's show, a review of the 1988's Scrooged directed by Richard Donner, and starring Bill Murray, Karen Allen, Alfre Woodard, Carol Kane, and Bobcat Goldthwait. Thanks in part to Murray's ability (or lack thereof), Donner's directing, their egos, and on-set clashes between the pair during production, this darkly comedic and horror tinged take on the Charles Dickens classic, A Christmas Carol, has gone on to become a, somewhat divisive, holiday classic. But first, what TV shows h...

#174 – Silent Night, Deadly Night

November 28, 2023 14:37 - 1 hour - 118 MB

On this week's show, a review of the cult classic that almost ruined Christmas in 1984, Silent Night, Deadly Night. This holiday horror slasher is a confounding amalgam of standard 80s horror movie tropes such as a largely unknown cast, hyperviolence, bad acting, worse dialog, nudity, "plot" holes, and more violence which is then followed by more nudity. This movie was not an easy watch. And while almost none of it works, this film surprisingly spawned several sequels over the next two dec...

#173 – Friday the 13th (1980) Live Review

October 13, 2023 18:15 - 1 hour - 139 MB

On this week's show, it's a live review of 1980's Friday the 13th. The little horror movie that started as a ripoff of another iconic slasher film, but ended up launching a film franchise of its own.  But you might be asking yourself, "What is a live review?". Well, we watched a movie, while recording what we think of it as we go. And so dear friends, that means you will be able to watch this cult classic right along with us. (It may help to follow the instructions given in the podcast, and...

#172 – Starship Troopers

September 26, 2023 11:33 - 1 hour - 115 MB

On this week's show, a review of the cult classic that is 1997's Starship Troopers starring Casper Van Dien, Dina Meyer, Denise Richards, Neil Patrick Harris, and Michael Ironside. From director Paul Verhoeven, this surprisingly nuanced and action-packed sci-fi satire truly has something for almost everyone. An intergalactic military kicking ass, drama, giant aliens, fisticuffs, romance, spaceships, nudity (so much nudity), and more.  Plus, we've got another movie you can watch with us, an...

#171 – The Summer of Sly: Tango And Cash

August 17, 2023 13:39 - 1 hour - 156 MB

On this week's show, the Summer of Sly continues with a look at 1989's Tango and Cash starring Sylvester Stallone, Kurt Russell, Terri Hatcher, and Jack Palance. This action-packed, buddy cop comedy contains nearly every trope of the 80s box office blockbuster: high speed chases, explosions, fisticuffs, damsel in distress, heroes who don't play by the rules, shadowy big bad, nudity, and more. Plus, a look at who else was up for one of the leads in this movie, and just how different (yet e...

#170 – The Summer of Sly: Rocky

August 09, 2023 12:36 - 1 hour - 122 MB

On this week's show, the Summer of Sly continues with a look at 1976's Rocky starring Sylvester Stallone,   Carl Weathers, Talia Shire, Burgess Meredith, and Burt Young. While not their first movie roles, this was the "big one" for many among this fantastic cast; most notably Stallone. As both writer and star, this drama disguised as a boxing movie made Stallone an overnight success, and is arguably the pinnacle of his monstrously successful 60 year career in show business. The results of...

#169 – Commando

July 05, 2023 12:28 - 1 hour - 139 MB

On this week's show, we watched 1985's Commando starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rae Dawn Chong, and Vernon Wells. Arguably, it's one of Arnold's best movies, and for good reason. While the plot of the movie is thin, it's heavy on explosions, big guns, bigger muscles, a comic book-level villain, giant dudes beating the hell out of each other, and some of Schwarzenegger's greatest one-liners. In short, it's a wildly fun movie. If you like what you hear, be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!

#168 – The Summer of Sly: Cliffhanger

June 23, 2023 13:23 - 1 hour - 142 MB

On this week's show, the Summer of Sly continues with a look at 1993's Cliffhanger starring Sylvester Stallone, Michael Rooker, and John Lithgow. For a box office blockbuster about a mid-air heist gone wrong turned cat and mouse action thriller set in the Rocky Mountains, it's quite boring at times. And outright bad at others. Plus, thoughts on Star Wars Rebels and more.  If you like what you hear, please subscribe. Enjoy!

#167 – The Summer of Sly: Cobra (Almost of The Motor City)

June 07, 2023 14:24 - 1 hour - 166 MB

On this week's show, the Summer of Sly begins with a look at 1986's Cobra starring Sylvester Stallone, Brigitte Nielsen, and Brian Thompson. This high octane and often confounding cult classic was produced by the Cannon group, and a few of their signature tropes appear in the movie: over the top action, super tough and muscly star, pretty damsel in need of rescue, and a muddled plot. Plus, the backstory of how the movie was made is almost as interesting as the movie itself, including a rath...

#166 – Star Wars Smorgasbord

May 17, 2023 12:48 - 1 hour - 129 MB

On this week's show, it's all Star Wars. From live action to animated, we meander throughout the vast amount of interconnected tales from a galaxy far, far away. Particular highlights being the third season finale of The Mandalorian, Rebels, and Jedi: Survivor.  As always, if you like what you hear, be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!

#165 – Demolition Man

April 20, 2023 10:52 - 1 hour - 154 MB

On this week's show, from the decade that arguably defined the action movie genre, we take a look at 1993's Demolition Man starring Sylvester Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Sandra Bullock, and quite a few other famous faces. Boasting a very good cast, hard hitting action, and despite Rob Schneider, some genuinely funny moments, this film is easily one of Stallone's most entertaining movies.  As always, if you like what you hear, be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!

#164 – Top Gun: Maverick

April 12, 2023 11:25 - 1 hour - 153 MB

On this week's show, we take a look at 2022's Top Gun: Maverick. Starring Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, and Val Kilmer, this movie is overstuffed with wildly cool high-flying action, heartfelt moments, excruciatingly slow and unnecessary plot points, a few things you've seen elsewhere, and the biggest staple of his films; Tom Cruise running at a moderately swift pace. Plus, news out of this year's Star Wars Celebration and more. Be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!

#163 – Bloodsport: A Live Review

April 04, 2023 11:42 - 1 hour - 166 MB

On this week's show, we’re trying something new. This will be a live review. “A live review? What is that?”, you ask? Well, for the first time ever, we watch a movie together, while recording the ridiculous thoughts that meander into our minds.  So, this will not be a traditional review, and it will only make sense if you watch the movie right alongside us. And what movie could possibly warrant such a momentous occasion? For that, we turn to one of the Cannon Group’s biggest cult classics, ...

#162 – Action Jackson (1988)

March 17, 2023 13:41 - 1 hour - 130 MB

On this week's show, we take a look at 1988's Action Jackson. Starring Carl Weathers, Craig T. Nelson, Vanity, and Sharon Stone, this movie is a non-stop thrill ride that features plenty of over the top action sequences, classic one-liners, and a very middle-aged guy doing karate. Plus, you're likely to recognize a lot of faces from other 80s movies; including one that looks exactly like Huey Lewis (minus The News). However, it was in fact, not Huey Lewis. Be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!

#161 – Iron Eagle (1986)

March 07, 2023 14:46 - 1 hour - 162 MB

On this week's show, we take a look at 1986's first entry in the fighter pilot genre, Iron Eagle (Sorry Top Gun). Starring Louis Gossett Jr., Jason Gedrick, and David Suchet, this movie's unintentionally hilarious plot is only overshadowed by its over the top performances, but at least it moves at a swift pace.  Be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!

#160 – Bearded Feet of Fury: A Chuck Norris Double Feature

February 23, 2023 13:53 - 1 hour - 127 MB

On this week's show, we’ve got a double shot of America’s mythical, bearded karate man from the 80s, Chuck Norris, with reviews of Code of Silence, and one of his many movies produced by the Canon Group, Missing in Action 2: The Beginning. This is technically a first-time Chuck Norris-ing for one of our hosts, and it was quite a noteworthy experience.  Be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!

#157 – Planes, Trains and Automobiles, And Running Scared

December 14, 2022 14:56 - 1 hour - 131 MB

A review of two buddy movies from the 80s. First, 1987's heartfelt, buddy road trip comedy, Planes, Trains and Automobiles starring Steve Martin and John Candy. Then a look at the charming, yet low-octane, buddy cop comedy from 1986, Running Scared starring Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal.  Plus, determining whether or not to Affleck at Christmas. Be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!

#156 – Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

November 29, 2022 15:29 - 1 hour - 118 MB

A review of Bram Stoker's Dracula starring Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, and Keanu Reeves (just to name a few). This movie boasts a spectacular cast and crew, solid FX, and beautiful set designs and costumes. And thanks in part to a couple of miscastings, a few absolutely bonkers performances, and other unusual filmmaking choices, this movie manages to be as wildly bad, as it is good.  Plus, answering the age old question, "Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?" and more. Be sure...

#155 – The Hitcher (1986): Mithril-Murder-Drifter

October 31, 2022 14:41 - 1 hour - 155 MB

A review of 1986's The Hitcher starring Rutger Hauer, C. Thomas Howell, and Jennifer Jason Leigh. This movie is a fast-paced psychological/action/horror romp that pits an assuming young guy against an unrelenting, deranged killing machine whom might actually be indestructible. Plus, the trailers for Wakanda Forever and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and more. Be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!

October 18, 2022 16:08 - 1 hour - 146 MB

#153 – Halloween III: Season of the Witch (Surly. Horror. Sci-Fi)

October 11, 2022 15:46 - 1 hour - 147 MB

A review of 1982's Halloween 3: Season of the Witch starring Tom Atkins, Stacey Nelkin, and Dan O'Herlihy. Produced by John Carpenter, this chapter in the Halloween franchise is a wildly confusing mix of bad writing, shoddy FX, a low-budget, and an unlikable lead. Also, this movie doesn't feature the face of the franchise, Michael Meyers. Naturally.  Plus, thoughts on the MCU's first (and long overdue) foray into the horror genre with Werewolf By Night and where it could lead, and more. B...

#152 – Masters Of The Universe: It’s Dolphin’ Time

September 21, 2022 13:29 - 1 hour - 128 MB

Continuing our journey through the Canon Group's movies, we take a look at 1987's Masters of the Universe starring Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella, Courteney Cox, James Tolkan, and Meg Foster. This film was Dolph's first time as leading (He-)Man, and despite his best efforts, it's a wild failure on nearly all levels. Plus, we determine which movies we watch next and it looks like we're staying in the 80s.  If you like what you hear, be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!

Plus, thoughts on never having seen The Godfather movies, the "ending" of the Halloween franchise, why Rob Zombie's foray into PG movies could be surprisingly good, and we need your help in finding a "good" video game movie. If you like what you hear, be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!

#146 –Superman IV: The One With The Volcano

July 12, 2022 14:28 - 1 hour - 139 MB

We continue our journey through the films of the Canon Group with a deep dive into 1987's Superman IV: The Quest For Peace starring Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, and Margot Kidder. This film is a confounding quagmire of bad dialogue, a confusing plot, cheap FX, unenergetic performances, and Jon Cryer. But at least the story of the film's production is fascinating. Plus, we need your help in finding a modern movie that is both less than 2 hours long, and entertaining.  As always, if you ...

But as a treat, we included (and started with) Rogue One.  And so, this show is about the last two films in the or...

April 12, 2022 14:33 - 1 hour - 137 MB

1992's Freejack starring Emilio Estevez, Rene Russo, Anthony Hopkins, and unironically Mick Jagger is a confounding quagmire of bad jokes, cheesy FX, and yet it is still wildly terrible. Plus, looking towards the final season of Better Call Saul, Marvel's Moon Knight, and more.  And if you like what you hear, be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!

February 22, 2022 15:58 - 1 hour - 145 MB

The trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is delightfully scary and full of wild teases (Let the speculation commence). A review of a comedy classic from long ago, 1984's Ghostbusters, and thoughts on its lackluster follow-up, Ghostbusters 2. The Boba Fett finale was mostly not great, but it did have a few noteworthy moments. And looking toward the Star Wars-y future.

#134 – Nobody: Khaki Assassin

February 02, 2022 14:02 - 1 hour - 140 MB

A review of the wildly fun action movie, Nobody, starring Bob Odenkirk, Christopher Lloyd, and RZA. Why the Mandalorian’s return is bad news for Boba Fett, 80s action movies in which the heroes are kids, and choosing between the musical stylings of Bruce Willis or Freddy Krueger.

#133 – The Book of Boba FEternals

January 20, 2022 23:39 - 1 hour - 129 MB

The first few episodes of The Book of Boba Fett are very "Disney". DC has another potential hit with HBO's Peacemaker. Yellowjackets on Showtime is creepy, weird, dark, and a hell of a lot of fun. Plus, a review of Marvel's The Eternals, the trailer for Moon Knight, and surprisingly a couple of late 80s/early 90s action movies do not hold up.  And please head over to ADAMSNERDS.com for more.
