On this episode of the PTP our guest is Dr. Karyne Messina, Ed.D. Dr. Messina is a clinical psychologist and Supervising and Training Analyst at the Washington Baltimore Center for Psychoanalysis and is on the medical staff of Johns Hopkins Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. She maintains a full-time private practice in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

Dr. Messina the author of several books, including Misogyny, Projective Identification, and Mentalization, and, Aftermath: Healing from the Trump Presidency. Today she is here to discuss how the psychoanalytical concept of projective identification, or what she terms "blame shifting" manifests in our contemporary politics. Examples from the ongoing document scandal playing out at Donald Trump's Mar a Lago, the use of blame shifting as a political tactic all politicians use, and the differences between conscious use of blames shifting, vs. an unconscious process, and how we can protect ourselves from psychological abuse.
