The Lord’s Prayer: Forgive Us

Pastor Kent Landhuis

THEME - The more I know how much I’ve been forgiven, the more forgiving I become.

TEXT - Matthew 6:5-15, Matthew 18:21-35

OUTLINE

Four Truths about Forgiveness.

1. Forgiveness is simple.

* Sin needs to be forgiven.

* God forgives our sin.

* We forgive others.

* We believe in forgiveness.

* Matthew 6:12

2. Forgiveness is complicated.

* True or False?

* * Where deep wounds between people are concerned, forgiveness can be unpacked in a moment.

* * Most people agree about what forgiveness is and how it should take place.

* * Good people resolve all their disagreements.

* * There are times when it is wrong to forgive.

* For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it. James 2:10

3. Forgiveness is unconditional.

* Matthew 18:21-45

* God demonstrated his love for us in this - While we were still sinners Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

* God loves sinners unconditionally because there is no good thing in us that moves God to love us or forgive us.

4. Forgiveness is conditional.

* Matthew 6:14-15

* If we confess our sins God is faithful and just and to forgive us our sins. 1 John 1:9

* Matthew 18:21-45
