A wildly successful alpine action-thriller from a rough spot in star Sylvester Stallone's filmography, Renny Harlin's Cliffhanger (1993) is perhaps the progenitor of the slew of “environmental action-thrillers” that would be released during the 1990's.
Packed with noteworthy character actors from the era, Cliffhanger is a handsome and cartoonish romp may not be the finest example of the genre, but remains immensely watchable to this day.
