It was just 172 years ago today, March 4, 1849, when a curious situation occurred in our Nation. On this date, it was the Inauguration of President Zachary Taylor, and the end of the Polk Presidency. Now, this is normal, but March 4, 1849, just happened to be a Sunday, and Taylor and his Vice-President, Millard Fillmore, had decided to wait until Monday to officially take the oath of office.
