It was just 167 years ago today, July 28, 1855 when the second U.S.S. Constellation was commissioned into the U.S. Navy. Now, why is this ship so deserving of our attention? Well, the Navy didn’t know it then, but the Constellation ended up being our last sail-powered ship built. With technology improving, the rest of American ships would have engines and a screw (propeller) with it, though many still had sails as well.
