Micromanagers aren't always doing it just to be jerks. They may not even know they are coming across this way. Often they have learned bad habits from other bad leaders. Other times they are under stress and aren't sure how to deal.


Tips:

Try to give them the benefit of the doubt

Try to explain how you felt during a specific time the micro managing was too much

Offer a counter solution

Accept that it may never change and create a plan

Get support from your team

Inform, inform, inform

Think ahead

Uncover the fears

Set boundaries

Evaluate yourself and your work

Proactively work to increase trust where / when you can
