According to the Kaiser Family Foundation, a nonprofit organization that focuses on health policy, an estimated ten percent of people need fertility assistance to have a child.  Senator Erin Maye Quade, DFL-Apple Valley, is the sponsor of a bill that would require both private and public health plans include coverage for infertility treatments.  She joins Capitol Report moderator Shannon Loehrke to explain the rationale for the health plan mandate.

The labor budget, approved by the legislature last session and subsequently signed into law, includes a number of provisions to improve the lives of workers in Minnesota, including paid time off, additional protections for meat, poultry and warehouse workers and new standards for the nursing home workforce.  Senator Jennifer McEwen, DFL-Duluth, chair of the Senate Labor Committee,  joins Shannon to talk about some aspects of the new law.
