THIS PODCAST CONTAINS LANGUAGE AND CONTENT SOME PEOPLE MAY FIND OFFENSIVE. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED IN THIS EPISODE ARE THE OPINIONS OF THE HOST AND GUESTS.

Welcome to series two of #ToppleUncaged!

Every week, The Canary will be bringing you an innovative podcast for the media landscape; hosted by me, Steve Topple.

In a special episode, I chat to a young musician from a family of music royalty: Jemere Morgan

Mr Topple x Jemere Morgan

Jemere is from Morgan heritage, his family being one of the most influential group of artists in reggae music’s history. But this young artist is proving a star in his own right. With a stunningly versatile voice, unique songwriting ability and lyrical prowess, he has recently released his debut album. It’s called Self Confidence and it a masterclass in how to diversify reggae music.

On Self Confidence, Jemere effortlessly flips between roots reggae, soul, RnB and hip hop – giving dazzling musical displays in each genre, and often combining elements of all of them. But more than this, Self Confidence is also cleverly constructed into two ‘acts’ both musically and lyrically. It takes the listener on not only an aural voyage but a philosophical one as well. Self Confidence may well be one of the records of the year.

So, I caught up with Jemere for the #ToppleUncaged podcast. We discussed Self Confidence, his musical heritage, touring, consciousness, the music industry and more.

Please note this episode was recorded while Jemere was on the road in a tour bus, so some of the audio quality is impaired.
