Beginning in 1920, Canada dominated hockey on the international stage, to the point that Canadians became bored with Canada competing. That would change in 1954 when the Soviets began their dominance and Canada soon found itself falling behind.
All of this would lead to the Summit Series, when Canada decided to send the best hockey players it had to compete against the best of the Soviets.
