Continuing our annual Oscars series, this week we discuss The Holdovers. Directed by Alexander Payne and based in the winter of 1970, this film follows an abrasive teacher, a cafeteria manager, and a small group of students who holdover at the Barton Academy over Christmas break. Starring Paul Giamatti, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and Dominic Sessa, the film explores how everyone has gone through personal tragedy, and the importance of coming to understand one another. It was named one of the top 10 films of 2023 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute, was awarded 2 Golden Globes, and has been nominated for 5 Academy Awards... But Is The Holdovers Good?
