This week, we discuss Mary Harron's American Psycho! Based on the 1991 novel by Bret Easton Ellis and starring Christian Bale accompanied by Willem Dafoe, Jared Leto, Josh Lucas, Samantha Mathis, and Reese Witherspoon among others, American Psycho follows Patrick Bateman (Bale), a New York Investment banker by day who is a serial killer by night. There is an idea of American Psycho. Some kind of abstraction. But there is no real movie. Only an entity. Something illusory. And though it can hide its' cold gaze, and you can watch it and see colors with your rods and cones, and maybe you can even sense that the cinematography or tone of the film suits you, it simply is not there. But... Is American Psycho Good?
