KEY TAKEAWAYS

The importance of Leveraging

Learning to leverage is a lifestyle and being able to do it effectively is beneficial to your mental health.
A lot of people don’t leverage in the right way or understand what leveraging is. It's important to leverage and systemise in the right way to gain the most impact.
Leveraging your lifestyle to make memories with your children and family is what is important. These memories are what we have and hold throughout our lives.

The journey of an Entrepreneur

If you are not happy in what you are doing and feel you’ve got something inside you about wanting to have your own business then take action and do it.
You need to keep going through the tough times, this is when you will be most challenged but is an opportunity for learning.
Do little things every day and momentum will build.
Catherine – there was a moment of realisation that I could either be stuck in a job I hated and didn’t feel passionate about and wasn’t working or I could go my own way and do something I felt passionate about, that’s how it all started, and property was my entry point.
Jay - I didn’t push my brand, I just wanted to build a business, but it is important to build your brand so getting out there and letting people know who you are and what you are doing is important to build your credibility and legacy.

The journey as an entrepreneur is about change, as the journey progresses your goals alter to be more focused on the long term and making a difference, contributing giving back

Mentoring and Mentees

A mentor has been there, done it, seen it, they can help you get through it.
It’s about sharing and passing on the 'knowledge'.
You have to have built a business before you are a mentor, it makes you more valuable.

You have got something to give because you’ve gone through it.
Having a mentor is about investing in yourself. When you are looking for a mentor, find someone who is living the lifestyle, you want someone who has achieved what you want to achieve.
It’s a 2-way thing both the mentor and mentees must be invested in making it work.
Mentoring and coaching are powerful because they hold you accountable.
As a mentor, it’s important for mentees to achieve, to have made something.

It's all about sharing and there is great unity in doing that.
If you are not happy in what you are doing and feel you’ve got something inside you about wanting to have your own business then go and do it.
You can achieve it in different ways, lots of people think you have to have money to make money but there is always a way to make money.
Whatever it is there is a way to start if you have it within you, an entrepreneurial spirit.

BEST MOMENTS

‘The power is in the action you take’

‘It’s your story that they are buying into’

‘You need to go through some challenges to learn and develop’

‘Go through your journey and when you are ready then undertake mentoring’

‘Hiring into chaos only creates more chaos. Making sure you have the systems in place and a plan is vital’

ABOUT THE HOST

Jay Dhillon is a serial entrepreneur, investor and philanthropist based in the UK with a proven track record of growing businesses from start-up to success- and helping others do the same. From humble beginnings, Jay grew his first business from 0-500 employees and three locations, racking up sales of over £30 million – all without any investment other than a small amount of savings. The business went on to acquire major clients such as Land Rover, Jaguar, Toyota and New Look, to name a few.

Its huge success inevitably brought about outside interest and at the age 33, Jay eventually sold the company to a London investment firm in Doyen Resources. Today, Jay owns several businesses in different sectors and helps entrepreneurs achieve success.

A calling to give back and help others led to Jay being chosen for the highly-coveted role as a Prince’s Trust mentor, where his achievements were marked by a personal invitation to Buckingham Palace to meet Prince Charles.

After helping several young entrepreneurs to success as a mentor for the Trust, Jay’s burning desire to bring his wisdom and knowledge to a wider audience ultimately triggered the concept of The Business Mentor Podcast.

Jay feels that anyone can achieve success in business with the right advice and mentoring and is now sharing his knowledge with his growing audience via his podcast.

In the UK alone 95% of business fail within the first five years and Jay’s aim is to reduce that number.

Backed with the hard-earned knowledge and experience from his time in business, The Business Mentor Podcast will share Jay’s personal business lessons as well those of other successful entrepreneur guests who share their wisdom and secrets on the show.
