What does it look like in action when you take the time to coach your employees? I can tell you from first-hand experience, the results can be huge for both your employees and your business. Today, I’m so glad to have Cari Heibel-Briner on the show. She is the President of Coaching at Adam Hergenrother Training, and I wanted to share her professional and personal transformation story with you from the perspective of an employee. Though Cari now is a talented coach, her first experience of business coaching was being coached herself.

The reason I asked her to be on the podcast is because her story is an incredibly powerful example of how business coaching with a holistic approach helps employees transform and experience greater and greater success both personally and professionally.

For a long time, Cari’s identity (like many leaders and high achievers) was defined through her work. She is a top performer and achieved a massive amount of business success from the start of her career. But it was only when she started focusing on the other aspects of her life – starting with personal growth – that she began to find more and more enjoyment from her work and have a greater business impact.

Through coaching, she has been able to let go of her attachment to her work identity, live more in the present, and connect at a deeper level with the people who matter most to her, like her sons. Today, she opens up about her business journey and shares her story with us.

Key Takeaways

[:55] How do you continually grow talent and how do you have talent that’s open to coaching?

[2:45] It’s important to create a safe space with the people in your world to be able to have important conversations with them.

[3:20] What does it really mean to have a ‘safe space’ at work?

[5:05] Cari shares her own transformation story.

[5:55] Cari used her business success to hide from other growth that she needed to have but didn’t want to subconsciously face.

[8:55] What is the hardest part about breaking out of your comfort zone and being open to growth?

[11:35] It’s never a question of if you have the willpower because you do, it’s the fact that we need to always be strengthening our willpower.

[15:30] Cari’s core identity is no longer tied to her business. She lives a happier life because of it and is able to enjoy several different aspects of her business now because of it.

[16:50] There’s nothing wrong with money, however, if you’re using money to try to change the way you feel inside, you start chasing the wrong things.

[19:45] Don’t let your ego run your life. Take a step back instead.

[22:05] Yes, what you're going through is hard, but you can handle it!

[24:20] Remember, success doesn’t happen overnight. It took Cari five years to reach where she is today.

[27:20] By living in the present and bringing no expectations to the table, she was able to connect with her oldest son in a way she hasn’t since he was 12 years old.

[28:35] We are always trying to change other people to ‘fix’ issues. The reality is, we need to change ourselves and the way we react/handle it.

[32:15] Cari has lived so much in her mind for so many years and she doesn’t want to do it anymore, and she knows other people out there feel the same way.

[32:55] Real personal growth means that something that used to deeply bother you no longer bothers you today.

[35:35] How can someone start their transformation journey?

[37:55] Everybody has an ‘aha’ moment, but what’s terrible is that you don’t know what to do about it, so you revert back to your old habits.

[41:00] We are launching the Business Growth Matrix! A 90-day program to become the CEO of your life! It starts March 12th.
