Nikki Woods is always on the go and admitted to being burnt out for the majority of her career!!
She doesn't necessarily see that as a bad thing... listen to find out why.

Who is Nikki?

Nikki Woods is a published author, speaker, 20 year media strategist, 5 year entrepreneur, and blogger. She is well-known for her work as the senior producer on the Tom Joyner Morning Show.

Now, Nikki works to empower experts and authors who have the desire to build a sustainable brand to establish their authority, build platforms, and attain visibility through new and traditional media.

What is feeling Successful?

For Nikki, the definition of success is constantly changing; always on the go. It’s totally different depending on where you are in your personal and professional life. Once you reach one goal, you’re on to the next and so you’re consistently leveling-up your version of success.

As a general theme though, success for Nikki is being happy with what you’re doing and loving life.

What is feeling Burnt Out?

Nikki can’t remember a time she took a vacation that wasn’t work related. She was never disconnected from the rest of the world. She was always go, go, go!

That constant overwhelm is sort of how Nikki defines her version of burnt out, but she also viewed that as a badge of honor for a long time. She was working hard and it showed and that was a sort of success during her time producing media.

The Burnt Out Experience Nikki’s Story

Nikki admits that she was probably burnt out for 80% of her career.

The media industry became a whole different beast not long after she started her career. She had to cater to the 24 hour, 365 days a year news cycle where she and her team were always trying to find the latest and the greatest stories to get better ratings.

To add to that, Nikki worked the “morning” shift for 20 years – meaning she was waking up at 2:30-3:00 AM to start work while still having to go for the full day because she had her family to spend time with.

All of that together created this constant sense of overwhelm and she was always sitting on the edge of burning out.

As a caveat, she still loved this job and couldn’t think of a better place for her.

If you are only focusing on negative aspects of your world, that’s generally what you’ll get back. It’s a vicious cycle of feeling just plain bad.

If you can look for and focus on the positives in your life and your career, that’s what you’ll get back.
