Ten years later, Rhaenyra has given birth to three boys, Jacaerys, Lucerys and Joffrey, who all lack the silver hair of the Targaryens/Velaryons. Viserys rejects Alicent's accusation that the children are bastards. Alicent tells Aegon that he must eventually fight Rhaenyra for the throne. Daemon and Laena visit Essos with daughters Baela and Rhaena, where the Prince of Pentos offers a lordship in exchange for an alliance against a resurgent Triarchy. Unable to give birth, Laena has her dragon Vhagar incinerate her. Ser Criston, now loyal to Alicent, goads Ser Harwin into attacking him by insinuating that Harwin fathered Jacaerys. This perpetuates rumours of Rhaenyra's infidelity with Harwin. In response, Rhaenyra proposes Jacaerys marry Helaena, Alicent's daughter, which Alicent rejects, and Ser Lyonel Strong offers his resignation as Hand of the King, which Viserys rejects. Viserys permits Lyonel to escort Harwin back to Harrenhal. Harwin leaves after an emotional farewell to Rhaenyra and her children. Rhaenyra, her children, and Laenor leave for Dragonstone. Alicent confides to Larys Strong she wishes her father was still the king's Hand, so Larys helps her by having criminals cause a fire at Harrenhal that kills Lyonel and Harwin.
