Bob Dole lost the 1996 Presidential Election.

On that night he came to the podium and said something I know for him had to be a little scary.

"For the first time in my life when I get up tomorrow I won't have anything to do" - Bob Dole

Boy did that turn out not to be true. In three days he would be invited to come be a guest on the CBS show "Late Show with David Letterman" and before you know it Bob Dole had a brand new career. He was selling Pepsi Cola and Viagra, he was writing books on Presidential Wit and most importantly he was tasked by the man who defeated him for the Presidency with a most important task.

Bob Dole was asked to lead an effort to get a Memorial built for the Greatest Generation. A generation in which he was a part and had become the living symbol of for the entire nation.  Bob Dole would lead the effort to build the World War 2 Memorial.

In this episode we are going to take you from the shattering loss of the 1996 election to being awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nations highest civilian honor, and on to those fun years when Bob Dole made the nation laugh and from there we start to watch him build the Memorial to an entire generation of heroic Americans.
