Rest in Christ’s gift

Propitiation = to appease

Pagan ideas of propitiation:

Deity’s wrath was arbitrary and capriciousDeity’s wrath similar to ours – based on unpredictable passions and personally vengefulAvert deity’s wrath through a bribe

4 Elements in Propitiation:

An offense, crime, or sin which incurs a penaltyAn offended person whose anger needs to be appeasedAn offending person who needs to be pardoned and acceptedA sacrifice of sufficient value to appease the offended person, resulting in pardon and acceptance of the offender, and a reconciliation of the two estranged parties

God put forward God to appease the wrath of God for sins against God.
