Tom Petty was born Thomas Earl Petty on October 20, 1950, in Gainesville, Florida. He died on October 2, 2017. His death shocked the world, and him too. Petty died of an accidental overdose of pain medication. He was plagued with several illnesses including knee difficulties and a fractured hip. He was advised to have hip surgery and decided to wait until he was done with the last tour, he felt he owed his fans and crew. His last performance was at The Hollywood Bowl days before his death. In this interview, Tom expresses his desire to let everyone know he did not intend this outcome. “Please let people know I wouldn’t just check out like that, I guess it was my time.”
