In South Africa, an estimated four out of ten Grade 1 pupils drop out of school before reaching matric. One of the contributing factors to this high dropout rate is a lack of early childhood development for many pre-schoolers.  Lester Kiewit speaks to Prof Eric Atmore, Director of the Centre for Early Childhood Development and Extraordinary Associate Professor in the department of education policy studies at Stellenbosch University.
