television the show lasted for nine series and was broadcast over a period of
nine years.There were 81 half-hour episodes between 1968-77 with audiences of
18.5 million in the early 1970s. The programme has developed a TV nostalgia
popularity among its original audience as repeat transmissions (in 1989 for
instance) and sales of home video cassettes continue to mount. A BBC Radio 4
version of Dad's Army, ran for a total of 67 episodes (20 from January
28 to June 10 1974, 20 more from February11 to
June 24 1975 and 26 more from March 16 to September 7 1976. There was
also a hour-long special on Christmas Day 1974).
