Roland Young (11 November 1887, London - 5 June
1953, New York City) was a British actor. Young debuted in Hollywood in the
1922 silent film Sherlock Holmes, in which he played Doctor Watson opposite
John Barrymore. Young had several supporting roles in his career, in such films
as His Double Life, Ruggles of Red Gap, King Solomon's Mines, Ali Baba Goes to
Town, And Then There Were None and The Great Lover. But he is probably best
known for creating the title role in the comedy film Topper and its sequels. He
was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Topper. In
the 1950s, Young appeared on several episodic television series, including Lux
Video Theatre, Studio One, Pulitzer Prize Playhouse and The Chevrolet Tele
Theatre. Young has stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for motion picture at
6523 Hollywood Blvd. and for television at 6315 Hollywood Blvd.
