How did Branagh and screenwriter Michael Green give us a new, laser focused contextualization of Hercule Poirot, a character as legendary as Mr. Holmes, but whom gets none of the credit, all without re-inventing him from the ground up? What of the Old Hollywood filmmaking the film gifts us? The acting porn packed into one long tube of A-Listers? How the film take us on a philosophical sojourn while still giving us Willem Dafoe with a silly accent? And how has the history of the mystery informed storytelling to this day?
