Melissa was a published author, self-advocate, and role model. She happened to have Down syndrome. Melissa passed away in 2008 at age 20. The Riggios discuss some of Melissa's better known accomplishments in writing, including her lyrics to two songs. Social highlights, their wonderful family, and the best advice they ever received are also mentioned. High expectations, increasing awareness, and breaking stereotypes are evident throughout Melissa's life and are still part of her legacy.
