During World War I the DuPont chemical company produced much of the gunpowder used for bullets in the war, and in the 1930's they were accused of excess profiteering from the war, and the company was getting a bad reputation around America. Although the company did not sell anything that everyday Americans could purchase in 1935, they sponsored this radio show with the intention of improving the company image in America. They demanded that a gunshot should never be heard on any program, and that the shows only include stories and songs about the men and women who helped America move forward. This show aired on the C.B.S. radio network from October 6, 1935, to March 31, 1953, creating almost 800 uplifting and educational episodes about America and the people and ideas that helped her grow.
