Entrepreneur and food photographer and Crohn’s sufferer, Helena Murphy, releases The Plant-Based Crohn’s and Colitis Cookbook in January 2023.

This cookbook shares Murphy’s nutritious, easy-to-digest plant-based recipes created specifically for people suffering with Crohn’s and Colitis, based on her own experiences of living with and cooking for Crohn’s disease.

The cookbook contains over 70 recipes that incorporate dishes designed for maximum nutrition and ease of digestion. In The Plant-Based Crohn’s and Colitis Cookbook, you’ll find:

evidence-based research about plant-based diets in relation to IBD

suggestions for how to diversify a plant-based diet

a useful list of kitchen staples to buy in bulk

customisable recipe ideas for breakfasts, dips, sauces, salads, soups, curries, mains and more involved weekend dishes

flare-friendly recipes tagged, so that if you’re experiencing a bout of bad symptoms you can easily navigate to the recipes which are especially kind on your digestion.

As a food and product photographer, Murphy has created a visually bold, dynamic and playful cookbook to contrast the drudgery and tedium of living with this disease.

Her hope is to provide an inspiring go-to resource so that sufferers of IBD don’t have to wonder in frustration “what can I cook today?”

“I created this cookbook to be the resource that I needed, as a vegan, when I was first diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. I had never heard of IBD when I received my diagnosis, and my IBD team focused largely on the medical aspect of treatment. I knew that I wanted to pursue a holistic approach to finding remission and that would include taking a close look at what I was eating,” says Murphy.

“I really hope this cookbook can help give other people ideas and inspiration if they aren’t sure where to start with their diet after receiving a diagnosis. This cookbook is a culmination of the recipes I have tried during times of mild flare, severe flare, and remission. Because this disease is so personalised, I have really tried to encourage people to use the recipes as a jumping off point so they can adapt the ingredients to what their bodies will tolerate.”

The Plant-Based Crohn’s and Colitis Cookbook goes on pre-sale for £17 on 1st December 2022 with the release on 3rd January 2023. It can be purchased on Amazon.
