Horror 10 Question Interview with Parahistorian
1. What's your favorite cemetery you've visited?
By far it's Green Mount Cemeteryin Baltimore, Maryland. (http://greenmountcemetery.com/) Absolutely beautiful, old cemetery with a lot of well known burials including John Wilkes Booth.
2. Your about to enter a haunted house. What 3 things do you take with you before entering?
Flashlight (duh!), voice recorder, and camera just for documentation. I'm a minimalist when it comes to paranormal investigation, most of the various gadgets are just that and really don't help with anything except wasting your money. :)
3. What's your favorite ghostly or horror film?
All time favorite is The Exorcist. I also really enjoyed The Conjuring.
4. Who's the bravest in your family when it comes to visiting a haunted location?
Hands down it would have to be me. I've been visiting haunted spots for years now. However, my kids are pretty fearless as well. They've been brought up visiting cemeteries and various haunted locations since they were fairly young.
5 What's your favorite haunted location?
My favorite has to be the Old Utah County Jail. We experienced some crazy things in that place (sound of slamming jail cells, shadow's captured on video, disembodied voices and footsteps) and it has a very unusual history. It was originally a nursing home / hospital and then it was turned into a prison (odd combination!). We found most of the active spots were in the older part of the building which was the original hospital.
6. Which did you like better: Classic Poltergeist or Woman in Black?
Poltergeist is definitely a favorite but I'd have to go with Woman in Black.
7. If you came back as a ghost, where would be your favorite haunt?
This is tough. I'd want it to be a public location so I could mess with people. Probably one of my other favorite haunted spots here in Utah. Ogden's Union Station. Great old train depot that has amazing history and is pretty haunted. I'd be one of many there!
8. Have you ever seen an apparition?
I have. It's actually what sparked my fascination with the paranormal. I was about 8-9 years old and I saw what I guess would be defined as a shadow person in our home. After telling my parents I overheard my mother having a conversation with her friend a few days later and she mentioned that the people who owned the house prior had a young child who died in the home. From that point on I was hooked! :)
9. What music, if any, puts you in the ghost hunting mood?
I don't know if I have a certain type that puts me in the mood for ghost hunting, but right now I really love Bad Suns and Walk the Moon.
10. What's the best way to communicate with the dead?
Keep it simple has always been my motto. A simple voice recorder is the best / easiest way to go. The friends that I usually investigate with like to know the history of a location before we go and then we'll usually just have a conversation with each other about the location, it's history, and the people who could possibly be haunting the location while recording. We've gotten better results with that than having the standard set of ghost hunting questions, do you know you're dead, how many are you, are you a man or a woman, etc. If a location is truly haunted by intelligent spirits it makes sense to us that they would be more inclined to join in on a conversation about them and the location than to answer silly questions.
